Presentation Title:

The relationship between nutritional status and exploratory laparotomy under general anesthesia postoperative treatment length in pediatric patients

Abstract

Nutritional status is a crucial factor but often overlooked in pediatric surgical patients. Preoperative malnutrition is known to disrupt the immune response, slow wound healing, and potentially increase morbidity and mortality, characterized by hypoalbuminemia and low body mass index. This is an observational analytical in exploratory laparotomy including obstetrics and gynecology surgery. Study aimed to analyze nutritional status and perioperative outcomes. Secondary data from electronic medical records were taken from 72 patients which has 43.1% of female pediatric population including gynecology and obstetrics patients. The independent variable is nutritional status, which is assessed with Body Mass Index and albumin serum level. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-Square, Mann-Whitney, and binary logistic regression. Serum albumin levels influenced postoperative mortality (p=0,001), clinical outcomes and length of hospital stay (p=0,027). These findings confirm the vital role of nutrition optimalization in young female patients to prevent adverse outcomes.
