Maternal Near Miss A Window into Quality of Maternal Health Care
Abstract
Maternal
Near Miss (MNM) refers to cases where women experience severe, life-threatening
complications during pregnancy, childbirth, or within 42 days of termination of
pregnancy but survive due to timely and effective medical intervention. The significance of MNM as a critical
indicator for evaluating the quality of obstetric care cannot be ruled out. By
analysing the causes, risk factors, and outcomes associated with MNM, we can
identify gaps in healthcare systems and implement strategies for improvement.
The session will also highlight WHO criteria for MNM, the importance of early
recognition and management, and the role of healthcare policies in reducing
maternal morbidity and mortality. Emphasis will be placed on data-driven
insights to underscore the importance of strengthening maternal health services.
