Abstract
The impact of
maternity hospital support on successful breastfeeding cannot be
underestimated. Complementary feeding may affect breastfeeding through incorrect
latch on when returning to breastfeeding after bottle feeding. In order to
maintain successful breastfeeding, infants in the early lactation phase need to
have safe alternative methods of supplementation that do not interfere with
breastfeeding and increase the likelihood of future breast rejection. The new
newborn supplementer (Dr. Schneiderman's nozzle) is a convenient and
comfortable alternative way to supplement a newborn baby with expressed breast
milk or adapted formula. The device allows you to conveniently express breast
milk and supplement the baby without the formation of pathological
"bottle" habits of breast capture, which will allow in the future to
increase the proportion of successful breastfeeding both in a hospital and at
home. According to our studies, breastfeeding by 6 months was significantly
more frequent among children who received supplementary feeding through a
syringe with a nozzle than through a bottle. The choice of supplementary
feeding method should be determined not only on the basis of cost, ease of use,
availability and maternal preference, but also on the potential negative impact
on subsequent breastfeeding.
The new device could become an important tool in
the clinical practice of neonatologists, lactation consultants, pediatric
nurses and breastfeeding mothers to increase the success rate of breastfeeding.
