Abstract
Abundant evidence exists that children born
pre-term are at risk of various developmental problems and cognitive in their
early years. When they reach school-age, some of these cognitive deficits
persist and may affect their educational performance. Currently, some software
programs are being used to assist school-aged children with improving working
memory, with some positive results. However not all families may have access to
the software. This presentation examines the content of these program in relation
to the findings of seminal studies on cognition, to tease out the sort of
manual exercises that may be used to assist with improving working memory.
